PSA: Piccolini

Sometimes I think there’s a place you’ve just got to know about and my Public Service Announcements (PSAs) will give you the full skinny.

I was so happy to finally have an excuse to go to Piccolini, an adorable baby boutique in SoHo/Chinatown.  Sure, Karina set up a registry, but she’s a true New Yorker so the baby she’s growing should be outfitted in things that are truly New York.  I didn’t realize it, but the onesies I’d loved on Food Baby come from the store’s private label.  They’re a take on the classic I ❤ NY shirt, with the letters made from quintessential New York foods in place of the “I” and the heart.  I decided to go with slightly more practical gifts, but have a feeling I’ll be back for one of those shirts.

Piccolini has those items you absolutely need, like the Sophie the Giraffe I picked up for Baby G.  I don’t know what it is about that toy, but babies can’t seem to survive without it.  In addition to the Sophie, I picked up a moustache pacifier and a dishwasher safe bib.  The store is filled with all the items you’re looking for, much with a downtown NYC flair.  There’s adorable hooded towels for the cutesy look and then there’s a distressed Blondie tee shirt for the rocker baby.  The book collection goes way beyond the usual suspects and features beautiful artwork and city themes (Brooklyn adventures, Keith Haring, Audrey Hepburn, etc.).

The store may be small, but it has a wonderful local vibe.  No gift reciepts here.  Should Karina want to exchange the gift, all she has to do is tell them my name and they’ll pull up my file.  We’re all neighbors here.
